We are pleased to inform the community that your efforts, starting last July 31st, have resulted in an agreement that was announced today between Western Rivers Conservancy (WRC) and Chelan-Douglas Land Trust (CDLT) and Weyerhaeuser. A purchase and sale agreement is in place between WRC and Weyerhaeuser for the purchase of the ENTIRE Nason Ridge Weyerhaeuser property (3714 Acres). The sale includes the Nason Ridge Trail over Lake Wenatchee State Park, significant frontage on Nason Creek (the most important single salmon spawning stream in the Central Columbia and the focus of a very large effort to restore Spring Chinook), and the 25k of trails that have been groomed by the Lake Wenatchee State Park for cross country skiing.
As part of this effort, CDLT and the community have formed a fund raising committee to solicit contributions towards the community goal of raising one million dollars towards the purchase over the next six months. WRC will be working with many partners to fill in the remaining funding and work out the long term management plan. The WRC Press release can be found here. An online donation form and more information on Saving Nason Ridge can be found at Save Nason Ridge website.
This conservation effort could not have succeeded without the tremendous response from the community, we all look forward to enjoying this unique resource for many years to come. We would also like to thank Weyerhaeuser for listening to the community and giving us the opportunity to work with them on a mutually beneficial solution.
