Dave Walker became Chief of Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue on June 1st upon the retirement of Chief Mick Lamar. Dave has been with LWFR since 2018, and the Assistant Chief since 2019 which gave him a year working side-by-side with Chief Lamar to provide continuity and insure a smooth transition. Dave lives in the Butcher Creek area with his wife Katie and their two sons Elijah and Forest. Katie is a social worker for the hospice program at Confluence Health. The Walker family is active together in outdoor sports and the Plain Valley Nordic Team.
Dave brings an extensive resume as a career firefighter to our fire department. He began in the fire service at age 16 as a Fire Explorer Scout with the City of Bellevue Fire Department, later becoming a volunteer firefighter with the City of Redmond where he earned his EMT certification and learned basic firefighting skills. In 1989 he was hired as a career firefighter by the City of Redmond and progressed through the ranks to become an Operations Battalion Chief and Fire Marshal, in those positions responsible for fire investigations, records management, national and regional deployments, apparatus design/ purchasing and new station construction. He has an AA degree in Fire Science and a Bachelors degree in Business and HR Management and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Dave also served as a Fire Commissioner, Director of Emergency Medical Services, Hospital Commissioner and Interim Fire Marshal in Skagit County. Since coming to Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue he has served as the chair for the Lake Wenatchee Fire Adaptive Communities, department rep to RiverCom 911, member of the Chelan/Douglas Fire Communications Committee, directed the LWFR Covid-19 response as the Branch Director of the Upper Valley Unified Command, was a committee member of the SCBA grant selection committee and the LWFR Health and Safety Officer.
