Talked with a maintenance supervisor for Washington DOT a couple of days ago about the sad shape of SR 207 from Coles Corner to the lake. He said that due to budget constrictions the road will only be patched again this year but is scheduled to be repaved during the summer of 2008. 

A reminder that US 2 between Coles Corner and Leavenworth will be shut down to all traffic from 7AM to 7PM  Monday April 16th through Friday April 20th.  All traffic will be routed through Plain and the Chumstick during those hours.

This isn’t news of great importance but thought I’d tell you we woke up to about 1.5 inches of snow this morning. Right now we look out the front of the house and at the East end of the lake it’s clear blue sky and sun, in front of the house clear sky with snow coming down and at the West end of the lake so socked in with snow we can’t see the end of the lake. Temp is about 34 degrees so this won’t last long.

For those contemplating a trip over Stevens Ithis morning I  just looked at the web cam and it looks pretty dicey up there right now- doesn’t look to have been plowed and it’s 28 degrees and still snowing.  It looks like really heavy slush.

Want to advise you all the Highway 2 will  be closed through the Tumwater canyon during daylight hours April 16-20 for wash-out repair. It will re-open at night. Daytime traffic will be routed through Plain.

Greetings Friends of Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp,

I am sending this email out to you today to inform you of our next volunteer work party on April 21-22 2007…We need your help! On Saturday the work will start at 8 am and conclude at around 5 pm. On Sunday we hope to work from 8am until noon. We will be providing lunch and dinner Saturday and Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday, as well as lodging for folks who wish to come up and volunteer. Kids are welcome. Anyone is welcome to arrive at camp Friday evening and and work all or part of this weekend. There is a lot to do in order to get camp ready for the Summer Season. Some of the projects we will have going are:

Piling up debris from winter storms for later burning -Still Need lots of bodies for this Project

Cutting up downed Timber into Rounds – Bring your chain saws if you have them.

Setting up the Water Front – This winter’s storms have left us plenty to do at our waterfront and thus the dock will need some minor repairs and will to be re-secured in the swim area. We will also will need to remove several large logs that washed up on our beach during the November floods.

Setting up the Archery Range

Cleaning out wood stoves in cabins

Repairing screens and windows on cabins

Clearing drains to remove standing water from trail system

and much, much more!

If you can, bring tools, we do have limited hand tools hand tools on hand, shovels, picks, rakes, ect. but could always use more.

Good evening-

I attended the PUD commissioners meeting today on the proposed fee increases on new hookups to power and wastewater. The increases appear to be justified; the electrical ones driven by increased cost of transformers and on the wastewater side by a need to have the fee’s reflect the true cost to the PUD which they have not done heretofore. The new fees will be effective May 1st of this year.

For those anticipating adding electrical service to what you have now or connecting to the wastewater system- you can avoid the increased fees by having a building permit in hand and application already filed with the PUD for the new service by April 27th.

There will be meetings coming up on the PUD fiber out program and on the effort to have PUD seek back-up means of providing power to the Plain/Lake Wenatchee area to avert the repeated outages we had earlier this winter. I will pass on those dates when they are known.

Ref the PUD fiber program, there have been a couple of editorials lately in the Wenatchee World. One was by Nick Stemm, the unsuccesful PUD candidate last fall, and the other by current PUD commissioner Ann Congdon. I will attach them both and encourage you to read them.

Good afternoon-

There are two dock or diving platform sections floating in the lake near our place. Both appear to have anchors on them that have now hit the bottom as they have been stable in their current locations since we arrived home Tuesday evening.

Both sections have tie-up cleats on all four corners. The one floating flat on the water also has a ladder on one of the long sides, two chains hanging from brackets on one end and one chain hanging from an eyebolt or something in the center of the other end . The second section has some white plastic buffer in short pieces near one corner as you can see in the picture.

I don’t know whose these are, if the owner has already found them and anchored them out here, if the dock-moving guy Dan may have put them there or what. My boat is still blocked in the basement by about 4 feet of snow so I have no means of moving them. If you think they may be yours you are welcome to come to our place and use the canoe to go out and look at them.
