Here is the latest on skate conditions, from Gary as of Mon Morning: Despite the fact that the temp did not reach the magic 28 degree mark last night we do have skateable ice this morning. The sun will be out so the ice should stay firm until 1:00 or so. Beware of a few spots where excess flooding did not set up completely. Again lighter skaters will be just fine so your kids and grand kids under 80 lb should have fun most of the day. The outside perimeter is unskatable and you will have to cross the moat to get to good ice. To access Skates contact Gary at Gary’s Emaill

Donations of skates are still arriving, sharpened, and placed into inventory at the skate shed by the rink.

Volunteers will be needed to groom the ice after today’s session. That process will begin about 2:30 unless the ice stays skateable later.. I attached a picture of our Zamboni crew at work.

We just need a couple of night of 28 degree weather at night and no more than 34 during the day and there will be perfect ice. Is that too much to ask?<del datetime="2010-02-15T16:05:49+00:00"></del>

OLYMPIA… State Sen. Linda Evans Parlette and Reps. Cary Condotta and Mike Armstrong are inviting residents of the 12th Legislative District to participate in a telephone town hall meeting to ask questions about plans for the 2010 legislative session, which begins Jan. 11. The telephone town hall event will take place from 7 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 21.

Residents can call in and participate in a community dialogue from the comfort of their own homes by dialing 1-877-229-8493 and entering the numbers 15405. The call begins at approximately 7 p.m. and lasts for one hour.

“This new technology is an efficient and convenient way for people to easily provide input and ask questions of their legislators,” said Parlette, R-Wenatchee. “The 2010 legislative session will be an especially challenging one with the state facing a budget shortfall and many of our citizens out of work. The decisions the Legislature makes this year will impact us for years to come. I hope people will take the time to call in and participate in this telephone meeting.”

“The legislative session began January eleventh and it is clear we have our work cut out for us. This call is just another way to reach out to our constituents to share our ideas, hear new ones and find out where they stand on legislation we are seeing,” said Condotta, R-East Wenatchee.”I welcome all the help and feedback we can get right now. Improving the business climate should be a top priority. I am looking forward to hearing from employers on this issue. We cannot afford to lose more employers and the jobs they provide, which will cause the state budget to continue to deteriorate.”

“We have a very busy and hectic schedule in this short session, but the reason we are here is to serve and represent the best interests of the citizens of the 12th Legislative District. That’s why I feel it’s very important that we take every opportunity to listen to the needs, concerns and ideas from the folks back home so that we can bring those comments to the table as the Legislature makes decisions,” said Armstrong, R-Wenatchee. “This teleconference is a great way to reach out and hear what people are saying so that we can provide strong representation for them in Olympia.”

During the tele-town hall, the three legislators will listen to residents, answer their questions and discuss a wide variety of topics related to the 2010 session. Citizens can listen in to the call, ask questions, and take part in instant polls without leaving home.

Lake Wenatchee State Park (R.E.I. attn: O.R.I.C.)
(509-763-3101)
Cross Country Ski Trail Information

Current Conditions: No ski reports will be updated Monday- Wednesday. Trails will not be groomed Monday due to low snow cover in the North and South Parks and Kahler Glen. Grooming will continue Thursday, as scheduled, assuming more snow falls this week. See normal schedule below.
SnoPark permits are required at all locations.
South Park: Groomed Sunday. Watch for thin spots.
Nason Ridge: Groomed Sunday. Should continue to be in good condition above the golf course.
North Park: Groomed Sunday. Thin along lakeshore.
Chiwawa See and Ski: Not yet groomed.

XC Trail Descriptions and Grooming Schedule:

South Park: Approximately 8 k groomed trails, double-tracked. Within the state park, the total includes a series of 1-3 km loops and longer runs through forest, along the lakeshore, and above the Wenatchee River for a total of 8 k. These trails will typically be groomed Thursday through Monday as conditions and equipment allow.

Nason Ridge Backcountry: This 20-kilometer groomed trail system begins at the Kahler Glen Sno-Park, within the South Park trail system. The first 7 k (known as “Lower Nason”) has rolling hills. At 7 k a challenging 13 k loop option begins (“Upper Nason”). The trail climbs 1,500′ to access miles of rolling, open, ridge-top terrain. The panoramic views of Lake Wenatchee, Glacier Peak, and the North and South Cascades from the top of Nason Ridge are spectacular. All trails are groomed with one track lane and a wide skating lane. We plan on grooming Lower Nason Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and the entire trail including Upper Nason Saturdays and Sundays. Challenging loop trip options are possible by way of the ungroomed Nason Ridge hiking trail. The great majority of this trails system lies on Longview Timber Company land. Many thanks to Longview Timber Company for allowing access!

North Park: The groomed trails in the North Park area provides 5.3 k of scenic trails which loop through the campgrounds, follow the river and lake shores, and run through quiet stretches of forest. This area offers a less-traveled alternative to the sometimes busy trails in the South Park area. These trails will typically be groomed, double-tracked with mini-skate lane (5.5 ft), four times weekly Thursday through Monday as conditions and equipment allow.

Chiwawa See and Ski: This Sno-park offers the “See and Ski” Trail, an 8 k groomed loop with a full skate lane (8 ft) and single track for the entire route. Trail passes through the forest and along the Wenatchee River. Osprey and the occasional bald eagle may be sighted here. This trail will typically be groomed Friday through Monday as conditions and equipment allow.

Snowshoe Trail Information: Trails not yet marked or tracked this season.

South Park: Here we offer a 1.8-mile loop trip. The route follows Wenatchee River and Nason creek then returns to the beach through a Ponderosa Pine / Douglas Fir forest.
North Park: A 2-mile loop is possible along river, lakeshore and through forest. Portions of the trail are marked, but not all due to variable snow cover: Visitors should be comfortable “finding their own way”.

Sled Hill: Sled hill groomed today!
