The spring snow delayed the Huckleberry crop, it looks like they are finally ripening. This weeks warm afternoons should help. Head up to your favorite patches above 4000′ this weekend. The peach + huckleberry pie attached was from berries found above 4500′. Note rifle hunting for deer in high country opens Sept. 15.

Watch out for Black Bears when picking berries. They are still around. At 4am this morning we heard a racket outside of our cabin on the South Shore. Looking outside we saw a medium size Black rubbing up against our flag pole near the lake edge. Within a couple of minutes the bear had pushed over the flag pole and then wandered off along the beach towards the west.
