FIREWORKS: Please be legal AND considerate

The time for fireworks is here again and to avoid running afoul of the County ordinance and/or your neighbors goodwill here’s a brief  reminder:

Per the County ordinance fireworks may be used ONLY between the hours of 1PM and 11:59 PM on July 3rd and July 4th and again on New Years Eve. This extends only to small or hand-held devices and NO aerial displays, bottle rockets, etc are permitted. There is a significant penalty for violation of this ordinance and the sheriff WILL cite for violations.  View the County ordinance at http://www.codepublishing.com/wa/chelancounty.html

Granted we retire early but we were asleep shortly after 9PM last night when fireworks began a short ways uplake from us. They continued until about 10PM. I realize that is not all that late but it was nevertheless disruptive to us and others and as any dog owner would understand very stressful to our dog. We expect fireworks on the 4th of July etc and are prepared for them but to begin discharging them that time of night other times is not very considerate of your neighbors, folks.

For dog owners: it is worthwhile to plan ahead for sedatives for you dog if he/she gets stressed out by the explosions. Consult with your vet about the use of over the counter benadryl or other options. Sedating them a bit before the fireworks start can make it a much more enjoyable evening for them.

I agree that planning ahead is prudent but that only works if the fireworks happen in the designated hours and days. Starting now in not acceptable.

With all do respect, Mr. Wilson, you should be able to take a week out of the whole year to be more lenient about some kids lighting off a few fireworks. After all, this is the 236th birthday of this fine nation. I for one will be excited to hear the sound of freedom in the sky. Happy 4th of July everyone!
