Fires visible from Lake Wenatchee

by George Wilson on September 15, 2012

SEARS CREEK FIRE 9-15-2012There are two fires visible from Lake Wenatchee  that with the breeze coming up are kicking up a little and becoming more visible.   One is up the White River  above Sears Creek and the other on Sugarloaf Ridge just North of Maverick Saddle.  The fire authorities are aware of these fires so there is no need to report them and a helicopter is at this time dropping water on the Maverick Saddle fire..

UPDATE:  8:15 pm   The Maverick Saddle fire appears to have been knocked down by water drops by helicopter. The Sears Creek fire is quite active and we were seeing large bursts of flame even from our end of the lake about 7PM.

Thanks for the update George. We are here this weekend, but have been wondering all week from the West side of the pass whether any fire was close. Nice to be updated on local conditions as they break, especially for those who live elsewhere.

This website sure has created a sense of community and pride in Lake Wenatchee. Many thanks to all who contribute and make it possible.

There is also a fire in the Chiwawa River drainage, which has apparently closed access to that area.

According to recent Sugarloaf Lookout radio traffic, the Maverick Peak/Saddle fire is flaring up a little again this afternoon, and putting up a column of smoke.

There is about a 20 mph wind up at Sugarloaf, so there are some winds above the inversion. Still doesn’t sound like it’s a major threat at this time, but it apparently got rekindled after all the water drops the other day.
