Chelan County Deputy Sheriff Brian Burnett is challenging incumbent Sheriff Mike Harum to be the next Sheriff of Chelan County. Brian will be at the Rec Club at the airstrip, near Midway grocery at Lake Wenatchee, at 9:30 AM this Saturday, July 24th, to hear your opinions and concerns about police services in the Lake Wenatchee/Plain/Chiwawa Pines area, to answer your questions and to share with you his ideas for future operations of our sheriff’s department.

In this time of diminishing budgets for public service agencies, our sheriff’s department has seen a loss of 11 patrol deputy positions with a predictable loss of patrol presence in our area. Speed enforcement is virtually absent in the area even after repeated complaints and a personal meeting with a sheriff’s supervisor about excessive speed on both sides of Lake Wenatchee. Jimi and I feel that many of these lost deputy positions could have been saved by better use of the sheriff’s appropriation. A top-heavy administration has been created by a leadership that apparently believes no one the rank of sergeant or above should do any real police work. At the same time, volunteer services have been decimated as evidenced by the virtual disappearance of the Reserve Program, The Sheriff’s Posse and the Explorer Program with significant declines in participation in the Search and Rescue unit.
Jimi and I wholeheartedly support the candidacy of Brian Burnett to be our next sheriff. We encourage you to listen to him and to his opponents and support him with us if you can. Brian is a good man with good values and character who has undertaken this gutsy challenge of his boss for all the right reasons. He is overwhelmingly supported by the Deputies Association of Chelan County, the Wenatchee Police Guild and other public safety associations. To us this respect and support of peers says much about this candidate. Many readers of this website are non- resident and thus not voters in Chelan County, but you are property owners here and have much at stake in this race. I met Brian last night and I’m interested in hearing his plans for our area. If he can provide more patrol coverage and get us back on track for volunteer organizations, like Search and Rescue, then he has my vote.
