Continued hot, dry weather, numerous local fire starts and the increasing fire hazard has prompted the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest to expand campfire restrictions for the Chelan, Entiat, and Wenatchee River Ranger Districts.

Effective Wednesday, July 28, 2010 building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire or stove fire is prohibited, except at designated campgrounds, approved sites and in certain wilderness areas of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest located within Chelan County.

For the Chelan Ranger District, campfires are allowed only in specially designated campgrounds. Campfires are no longer allowed at Pine Flats, Snowberry Bowl, Mitchell Creek, Antilon Lake and Deer Point Campgrounds.  Campfires are still allowed at Holden Village, Domke Lake Resort and summer home sites under special use permit.

The Entiat Ranger District will allow campfires only in designated campgrounds and summer home sites under special use permit.
Wenatchee River Ranger District will allow campfires only in designated campfire rings in campgrounds. The expanded restriction means that campfires are not allowed in dispersed sites located within the boundaries of the Wenatchee Ranger District (formerly the Lake Wenatchee & Leavenworth Ranger Districts).  Campfires are not allowed at Chatter Creek, Rock Island and Blackpine Campgrounds.  Campfires will be allowed at summer home sites under special use permit and certain wilderness areas.

In the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, campfires are not permitted above 5,000 feet elevation or within a half mile of most lakes.  In the Henry M. Jackson Wilderness, campfires are not allowed within a quarter mile of Lake Sally Ann, Minotaur Lake, Theseus Lake, Heather Lake, Glasses Lake and Lake Valhalla.

Please contact ranger districts directly for more information, and please, observe all burning and campfire restrictions.
