Community Cupboard food drive

by George Wilson on February 25, 2010

Hi Lake Wenatchee and Leavenworth Friends,

Cascade Medical Center holds an annual food drive to support the Community Cupboard.  This year’s drive is March 22 – 26 and I am a member of “Team Nuts and Grains” (personally I was campaigning for Fruits and Nuts).  Our team is charged with collecting as much healthy food that reflects our team name (or not) as we can. The important point is that we support the clients of the Community Cupboard!

Healthy foods would be anything that is low in sodium, low in fat, and low in sugar, or sugar free and, of course, high in fiber!  The people at the Community Cupboard have indicated there is a need in this community for items geared towards our Senior Citizens, so please keep that in mind as well.  Some suggestions are:

  • wild rice
  • brown rice
  • whole wheat  (pasta, crackers, cereal)
  • oatmeal
  • whole oats
  • barley (soups )

Of course anything of the non-perishable variety goes like canned vegetables and fruits, tuna, peanut butter, etc.

If you would like to help me provide for those struggling in our community, please just give me a call, 679-1449.  For those of you “townies” that would like to help, donations can be dropped off at the CMC admitting desk (hospital end); be sure to label it “Nuts and Grains c/o Kathy Leal” and our team leader will pick it up.  This is a competitve event – not unlike Apolo Ohno on the short track!  Go for the gold, go Team Nuts and Grains!
