Commissioner Ray Zufall, Fire District 9

by George Wilson on February 11, 2010

Longtime Lake Wenatchee resident and recently retired CCFD9 Commissioner Ray Zufall died February 3rd. He was 83. Ray was one of the two individuals that conceived of, promoted and saw through to reality the creation of our fire department at Lake Wenatchee. He served as Commissioner of that Department until health considerations forced his retirement last year, and also served as an active firefighter in the early days of the department. Ray was born in Wenatchee but spent much of his early years in the Lake Wenatchee area. He worked many years as a brakeman on the Great Northern/BNSF Railroad and in retirement made his home on the North shore of Lake Wenatchee. He was an avid motorcycle rider. His efforts on behalf of the people of the Lake Wenatchee area have benefited many and he will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 20th, at the Lake Wenatchee Recreation Club at the airstrip on the Chiwawa Loop road.  The family requests that any memorials be donated in Rays name to Chelan County Fire District 9 at 21696 Lake Wenatchee Highway,  Leavenworth, WA 98826; the Humane Society of the Wenatchee Valley at 1474 S. Wenatchee Avenue, Wenatchee, WA 98801 or the Central  Washington Hospital Hospice at P.O. Box 1887, Wenatchee, WA 98807.
