Here at www.LakeWenatcheeinfo.com central, we’re frequently asked what the rules are about camp fires. As you can imagin, these change frequently and vary depending on where you are.  The below was provided by Terri with Chelan County Fire District #9, including their Summer 2010 news letter www.lakewenatcheeinfo.com/img/newsletter.jpg . Terri suggests you call her directly if you want specifics at 509-763-3034.

Our area is unique with the variation of land ownership and jurisdictions on fire authority.  USFS regulates the federally owned lands including thefederal campgrounds, additionally there are pockets of state owned DNR lands with jurisdiction over privately owned forest lands that are paying a forest assessment tax, lastly we have the private lands that are protected by Chelan County Fire District No.9 with the Chelan County Commissioners having fire authority.

Legislation was passed in 1991 requiring the control of air pollution in WA state with RCW 70.94.011.    It is the intent of this act that the implementation of programs and regulations to control air pollution shall be the primary responsibility of the department of ecology and local air pollution control authorities.  For more information on outdoor burning or complaints of air pollution, report to Department of Ecology, 1-866-211-6284 http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/air/outdoor_woodsmoke/residentialburn.htm

With this unique and varied land management a Fire Advisory Board has been set up with representation from all agencies involved.  The Fire Advisory
Board meets to recommend restrictions based on current and forecasted conditions so all agencies can try to stay on the same page when it comes to changes in the restrictions.

The USFS will post changes on their website at
http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/wenatchee/conditions/campfires/index.shtml or you can contact Michelle Ellis, Fire Management, at the Wenatchee River Forest at(509) 548-2550

Washington State’s DRN county burn information is found at http://fortress.wa.gov/dnr/firedanger/CountyLanding.aspx?CountyCD=4 or you can contact the Southeast Region in Ellensburg at(509) 925-8510

For local changes to county lands you can contact me at the station and I will be informed of changes from the Chelan County Commissioners.

I hope this helps to clarify this very confusing reality of neighboring jurisdictions in the forest lands.
