Winter seems to have arrived- we’ve received 6″ since 7AM and it’s still snowing hard.
Winter always brings it’s own issues up here and one of them is parking. Every year there are the same reports of people parking on the traveled roadways of North Shore Drive, South Shore (Cedar Brae) and other roads. Another frequent, and growing, problem is the discourtesy shown by some. More frequently it seems that people that pay for having their driveways, turnouts and other parking plowed arrive to find others parked in them. The sheriff WILL ticket vehicles parked in the roadways in ways that can impair passage of traffic and larger emergency vehicles. Providing for parking for yourself and your guests is part of being here in the winter so please don’t park in other peoples plowed areas or have the snow from your driveway dumped on your neighbors drive or property.
Owners of cabins on the USFS Summer Homes lots on the South Shore will find parking at the turn-around at the end of Cedar Brae Road limited to a few vehicles and those by permit only. This is because in recent years so many vehicles have been parked there that the county plow could not turn around and thus quit coming in at all and as a result the road got down to being almost impassable. Vehicles could not meet on the road and fire vehicles and ambulances could not get in. For information on how to obtain one of the permits for parking at the turn-around contact Theresa Samuelson at Campfire Northwest in Wenatchee. At this time I don’t know what if any arrangements if any will be made for additional vehicles or for vehicles of persons wanting to snowshoe or ski the road into Glacier View or Hidden Lake. If that information becomes known to me I will post it immediately.
