So I have a question, hopefully someone will have an answer for it, maybe Rollie. This year's sockeye season... they said they needed 23,000 fish.. plus a surplus of 4,000 fish to open a season. But they opened it before they had even gotten the minimum requirement??? Now, due to some weird die off or something... when I just checked the Tumwater dam count, only 15,000+ fish had crossed the dam total this year, when they estimated that 30,000 would make the trip. They estimate that about 2,000+ salmon were caught during the season... so that means only about 13,000 fish really made it back to spawn this year. Is it just me, or is this a royal mess up? Shouldn't someone be losing his/her job over opening the season before making sure the season had enough fish etc? It seems like we could all be in for a rude awakening 4 years from now, when there isn't a season because not enough fish spawned. Anyone?
