Received the following from Rick at the State Park
Hello everyone –
If you have been hoping to ski Nason Ridge, consider getting out here this weekend. First, an overview of our trails: We suffered through some terrible weather conditions in the past week: Extremely heavy, warm rain followed by several days of very warm wind and now freezing conditions with no new snow. The North and South trails are doing O.K. now that we have had stable temps below freezing – we have been able to work the surface enough to create decent conditions for skiing (despite very thin cover along river and lake shores). The Chiwawa must have more snow before we groom due to thin cover and standing / running water. Lower Nason has several washouts – with running water which currently require that the skis come off, but great conditions otherwise. We have decided to put extra effort into Nason Ridge tomorrow morning, in part because we’re unable to groom Chiwawa. We will put both snocats out there in the early morning, one will be filling the washouts while the other grooms the upper trail system. If all goes well this trail should be in pretty good shape (possibly very good!) for skate and traditional skiing. Check out tomorrow’s report – by 7:30 a.m. we should be able to provide a good condition report. If you’ve been itching to get out there, this would be a good time. Who knows what the remainder of this bizarre season will bring.
