Urgent RT 2 Legislation
A good friend of mine, Lawrence Cock’s nephew was killed on RT 2 just before Christmas. Lawrence and his brother Tom have become very active in trying to get funding approved for RT 2 safety improvements. Please review the information below and contact your legislator as soon as possible.
There are 3 bills that would provide funding for RT 2 Safety improvements. Here is a description of the bills: RT 2 Bills
These bills need to be voted out of committee this week or they won’t be part of this legislative session.
In particular, constituents from Judy Clibborn’s district (Mercer Island) or Dennis Flannigan (North Tacoma district) Chair and Vice Chair of the transportation committee are urged to contact their legislators and ask that the bills be voted out of committee.
Representative Condotta from Wenatchee is a co-sponsor of the bills.

Subject: Highway 2
Dear Friends:
I am working with my brother to get the legislature to take action to address safety issues pertaining to Highway 2. As you may know, my nephew was the 47th Highway 2 fatality since 1999. The House transportation committee is currently considering three bills. Each of the bills redirects a current funding source to a “Special Safety Corridor” account that will provide construction money for highways needing safety improvements, including Highway 2.
The bills (HB 2614, 2615, and 2616) will have a better chance of getting out of the transportation committee if constituents e-mail their legislators, telling them to take action. One Mercer Island representative, Judy Clibborn, is crucial because she chairs the Transportation Committee. If you are willing to spend your time sending an e-mail to your legislators, here is the easiest way to do it:
Go to http://www.leg.wa.gov/legislature
Click “Find your legislator” on the left hand side.
Type in your address and click “find my district”
Then, click the link for one of your representatives.
When their contact information appears, click on the “e-mail” link.
You then have to fill in your address a second time, and click “next.”
Please then fill in the dialogue boxes.
· Be sure to check the box to send a carbon copy of your message to the other representative and your senator.
· The bill number is HB 2614. (In the notes field, you can also identify HB 2615 and 2616.)
· In the text field, you should describe when you use Highway 2, state that you are concerned with its safety, and urge the representative to get the bill out of committee and enacted into law.
Thank you for considering getting involved (and even forwarding this e-mail to a few close friends). E-mail or call me if I can give you additional information about the specific bill provisions. IF YOU ARE GOING TO SEND AN E-MAIL, IT IMPORTANT TO DO SO TODAY. UNLESS THE BILLS ARE REPORTED OUT OF THE COMMITTEE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS, THEY ARE UNLIKELY TO BECOME LAW.
Thank you.
