The Ice is Going….

by George Wilson on March 4, 2008

Ice-3-4-08 Update- 8:00 AM Tuesday: The ice is gone from most of the lake but is pushed up against the East end of the lake. Beginning about 100 feet East of our place on the South shore there is an oval-shaped band of broken-up ice running all the way across to the Y Camp. East of that band appears to be solid sheet-ice yet. I’ll take a walk East from here this AM and see if the ice is putting any pressure on the docks/pilings in the area between my place and the State Park.

It’s 8:30 PM on Monday. For the last couple of days we have been watching small leads of open water getting much larger and the West end of the lake appearing from here to be largely ice free. In front of our place even as it got dark tonight there was a fairly large lead of open water but still mostly ice. Just looked again and all of what was unbroken ice is now broken up into fairly small pieces of ice, undulating with the wave action and moving East. I would think by morning it will all be gone or pushed up onto the beach at or near the State Park.
