Snow report- March 28th, 2008

We had a dusting of snow again y’day morning but no accumulation. For those
contemplating coming over the Pass today or tonight I thought you should be
aware of this forecast:

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 5 TO 8 INCHES ARE EXPECTED IN THE VALLEYS OF THE EAST SLOPES OF THE CASCADES BY SATURDAY MORNING. SNOW WILL INCREASE FRIDAY MORNING AND BE LOCALLY HEAVY DURING THE DAY. THE HEAVIEST VALLEY ACCUMULATIONS WILL LIKELY BE OVER THE METHOW VALLEY…WHERE HEAVY SNOW COULD LINGER THROUGH THE NIGHT.

LOCALIZED ACCUMULATIONS IN THE MOUNTAINS
COULD REACH A FOOT BY SATURDAY MORNING.

Does anybody know the condition of the road leading to the South Shore Summer Homes after Camp Zanika?

    Is it drivable yet?

    Thanks

It has not been opened up yet. I think it’s usually right around April 1st that the County opens it up but it has not been done to date. There is still a lot of snow on a lot of the North aspect ground up here.

THE COUNTY ROAD SHOP ADVISED TODAY THAT THEY EXPECT TO OPEN THE ROAD BEYOND CAMP ZANIKA A DAY OR TWO BEFORE THE 15TH OF THIS MONTH.

Yes- That is open water on Fish Lake- y’day the open areas were to the West end of the lake but the ice is loose and shifting. Will probably be gone altogether soon……

Wow,when the ice goes, it goes fast, doesn’t it!

Sorry for the topic change, but is it true you can legally park at Stevens Nordic Center after the 15th and snowmobile from there? If so, is it legal to ride the backside of the ski hill as well?

We hiked in to our south shore cabin (#26) over the Apr6-7 weekend and the snow is still very deep; 4-5′ in some places on the road. It’s walkable w/o sshoes but not drivable due to deep drifts. Hiked to Hidden Lake w/o sshoes, awesome! Still frozen.

I was skiing at Stevens y’day and asked a few staff folks up there and though their answers were not authoritative or official it appears you can park at the Nordic area and take snowmobiles into the back bowl areas but not onto the front areas of the mountain.

Thanks for checking on that George. Sounds like lots of fun still left in the season.
