Fishing Opener 2008

The first boats headed up lake around 5 am to greet the 2008 sockeye season.  There were about 75 boats out by 7:30.  General impression was slow until the sun rose then there was lots of action on all sorts of gear.  I only had a ‘knot free’ fly fishing net, I made it work…

Here is V2 of the ski boat rig,  2 x 6 held in place by the ski pole, with down riggers a big improvement on the hand line.

Anyone know how long the season will be open? Are there still a lot of fish coming over Tumwater? I am hoping to make a trip to the lake.. but it might not be until next week.

This will be a bit day by day, Fish and Wildlife were counting this am at the ramp when boats pulled up. I will try and get an update on the website before the weekend with status.

    Nice downrigger mounts!

Do they bite in the evening as well, or only the morning?

We’ll be out there with the kids friday!

Felt slower today, went back out mid afternoon and caught two one at 55′ and one at 75′, need to be more patient but the fish are there all the time.
