Avalanche at Kahler Glen
Have had about 20 emails and as many telephone calls tonight asking about reports of an avalanche at Lake Wenatchee. Yes, there was an avalanche. I responded with the fire department and here is about all I can pass on at the time:
About 4PM this afternoon an avalanche came down a drainage area on the East end of Nason Ridge and destroyed one home and damaged another at Kahler Glen. A search on site and other inquiries led to the conclusion that no one was in the building at the time. The home destroyed was on Pelton Place, just above Miracle Mile. The upper part of Miracle Mile has been closed pending stabilization of the site. If you have any thoughts of trying to walk up there do not do that until the road is re-opened. Please do not email me with any further questions because I have told you here all that I have to tell.
The weather forecast for the weekend calls for rain and snow so if you live or play in avalanche-susceptible areas please use caution.
