Public Meeting- White River and Nason Creek hatchery proposals

> The Priest Rapids Coordinating Committee (PRCC) Hatchery Subcommittee would
> like your ideas on future plans for the Nason Creek and White River Upper
> Columbia River (UCR) Spring Chinook supplementation programs.

> A public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 17, 6:30 p.m., at the Lake
> Wenatchee Recreation Center, located at 14400 Chiwawa Loop Rd., in
> Leavenworth, WA (Lake Wenatchee Airstrip).
>
> The PRCC Hatchery Subcommittee is committed to incorporating public input on
> how best to implement ongoing and future UCR spring Chinook supplementation
> programs for the White River and Nason Creek. Both of these stocks are
> listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act and are likely to
> become extinct if recovery measures are not taken. Fisheries scientists have
> determined a multi-faceted approach, including artificial propagation, is
> currently the best way to recover this species.

> This meeting will be the third in a series to provide information and to
> solicit input from the public on the White River and Nason Creek UCR spring
> Chinook supplementation programs. Previous public meetings addressed the
> history of each program and answered questions from those in attendance.

> The May 17 meeting will provide an update on our progress and a brainstorm
> with local stakeholders on how to best implement these programs. We are
> seeking input on good locations and designs of acclimation sites and on
> partnerships to aid in the conservation and rebuilding of spring Chinook
> salmon in Nason Creek and the White River.
