Property Tax Appraisal Meeting
TOWN MEETING ON PROPERTY TAX ASSESSMENTS
On May 21st I received my new tax assessment for the Chelan County Assessors office. Like other Leavenworth residents I was shocked at the increase in assessed property value. I called the Assessors office and spoke to the assessor that determined the value of my property and assured me the value was correct and I should contact a realtor to confirm the county’s assessment. After discussing the question with a Realtor from Prudential Mike West Real Estate office, the realtor (who agreed that my home would not sell for the assessed value) said he would investigate the situation and call me. The Realtor called me later and said there had been other residents calling with the same concern of over-assessment; and his office would organize a Town Meeting. They would organize the meeting only if the elected officials were in attendance.
A Town Meeting was organized for Monday June 4, at the Icicle River Middle school at 7:00 pm. It is expected the attendees will include representatives from the offices of the County Commissioners, Chelan County Tax Assessors, State representatives and State Department of Revenue. The agenda will include comments from the county assessors’ office, elected officials and information from concerned property owners to support their position for a reduced property assessment.
