Community Forestry
The meeting on Thursday august 30th at the Leavenworth Fire Hall is for the purpose to move the Community Fire Planning efforts from the “planning stage” to the implementation stage on federal lands that surround the private lands. The fire planning group has had one discussion and there is a sense that projects in the Chumstick drainage would be the place to go with the next fuels reduction and forest restoration project.
I have been involved in Forest Coalitions for many years. I have found that when you get the interested people together well before the Forest Service starts its formal permit process, and if there is a good authentic dialog, we can get projects permitted without appeals. Most people find that they have a common value here and problems can be worked out.
If this next effort proves fruitful we could form a Forest Coalition that helps get projects permitted in the wide area around Leavenworth, Lake Wenatchee and environs. This could be a very good effort.
I would ask you to come to the meeting on Thursday and certainly send this email out to others.
We do ask that people come with a good attitude towards solving problems. It isn’t a “beat up the forest Service” meeting. We can work together.
